50th Wedding Anniversary for my Father's First Cousin

Pork cutlet, potatoes, coleslaw & cucumber saladIn 2011 I was honored to be able to attend the wedding of my second cousin and this year I was able to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary with my father's first cousin - Barbara (Basia), who he & I first met in 2006. Until I had done research on my father's ancestry, my father knew little about his family still in Poland. By 2004, the Firkowski family research with Łukasz Firkowski had turned up many members of the family, but it was not until 2006 that we were able to locate the closest relatives of my father.

This Blog post is a little more personal but I am also sharing because being able to attend this event only occured through all the hard work of the genealogy research that was done. You will also see that this celebration is not unlike how it is done in the US. Another plus is that I can once again share some photos of the wonderful food in Poland.

After picking up some cakes that were preordered & buying up some flowers we headed to the home of Basia & her husband Kazimierz (parents of Adam my second cousin) & were met my Adam's brother Jacek & his wife Ewa with their son Jakub (Kuba). Basia loves to cook & have family and friends come to visit so as always we were treated to some of her great home cooking. It was wonderful to see them again and be able to relax, sit & chat for a while.

As always a great food spread with a good Polish beer!
