Lipnica Murowana Wooden Church

St. Leonard If you are traveling along the trail of wooden churches in the area of Kraków, you will come upon the small town of Lipnica

Murowana, where there are three churches. It is unusual to have so many churches in a small town, but I guess it is known as the city of saints.

The oldest of these churches is a wooden church that has its origin in about 1144. St. Leonard is one of six wooden churches in Southern Little Poland that is recognized by UNESCO for its historic value.

Other churches in town are St. Andrew & St. Simon, but I was mostly interested in seeing the small wooden church of St. Leonard. I am totally fascinated with these old wooden churches and amazed at their survival over the centuries. The craftmanship of the structure & artistry inside is wonderful.

The town cemetery is at the old wooden church, so when you pay the cemetery a visit, you will be at the oldest church in town.
