Bierzgłowski Castle
Bierzgłowski Castle was built by the Teutonic Knights in about 1260 and is one of their oldest structures. Although it is not one of the well know castles in Poland nor is it very large, it has an interesting history. Shortly after it was built, the Lithuanians destroyed it and it was rebuilt in the gothic style you see today. Since then it has seen its battles and has had to have been rebuilt a number of times over the centuries.
After you walk through the large entry, which of course was large to accommodate horses, you are in the area between the first and second wall, which appears to be the place where the horses were kept.
Inside the main area you will find a small garden. There is still a small working chapel inside the castle. Even though there are masses said in this chapel, the castle & its chapel can be rented for weddings.
