Kościuszko Mound in Kraków

DSC07998There is a man made mound built on top of a hill in Kraków. This mound is 35.5 meter high & is in the middle of an old fortress which
it is one of four such mounds in Kraków.

The mound is named after Tadeusz Kościuszko who is famous in Poland, but also was vital to the United States winning the Revolutionary War against the British. Most people in the United States do not know how much this Pollish military man, made General by George Washington, helped the people of the colonies become The United States of America.

In about the 1820s people of all ages and classes volunteered their time to buid this MASSIVE mound in commemoration of Tadeusz Kościuszko.

An easy walk up the mound takes you to the top where you will get breathtaking views over the city of Kraków. I know there are many places to see in Kraków, but this is one you can add to your list.

Below the mound in the restored part of the fortress is a wax museum with some of the famous people from Poland.
